Shelby Ijames grew up in High Point, NC. She is a graduate of Lander University where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. She also has a Master’s Degree in Curriculum from Gardner Webb University. Dance was Shelby’s first love. She began dancing at age two and competing at age five. Many years later, Shelby had to step away from dance in order to play basketball at the collegiate level. However, she never lost her first love. Once Shelby began her teaching career, she was anxious to bring her passion for teaching students and her love for dance together. In pursuit of this goal Shelby started her first school dance team at Sedge Garden Elementary School. She later went on to teach dance as part of a summer school program. Most recently Shelby started a dance team of over 100 students in Kindergarten through fifth grade at Caleb’s Creek Elementary School where she currently works as an Instructional Facilitator. Shelby is the mother of two young girls who share her love for dance and are part of the Extravadance family.
