Why is there no open observation of classes in session?
ExtravaDance & Tumble does not have open observation for several reasons, the most important being that it’s a distraction. The attention spans in young children are limited as it is and adults and siblings who are watching can disrupt the learning environment in the classroom just by their presence. Also, children may be comfortable with their own parents watching them but not with other parents who, to them, are strangers. Space is also limited for observation outside the classroom.
We schedule observation on a regular basis and parents are invited in to the classroom to watch during the last 15 minutes of class. We also have a Christmas program as well as a very big recital in June and everyone is invited!
Do you have a recital?
Yes! We have four performances but your child is only in one. This helps to make for a shorter and more enjoyable recital for the family, especially the younger children.
When is your recital?
Usually the first or second weekend in June – whichever accommodates the high school graduation calendar
What dancewear and shoes do I need for class?
While all classes differ due to age groups and different dance types, the following is usually applicable:
- For one-hour combo classes – ballet and tap shoes
- For 90-minute combo classes – ballet , tap and jazz shoes
- For jazz only – jazz shoes
- For hip hop – athletic or hip hop shoes
- For cheernastics – athletic shoes
Any kind of dance wear is acceptable as long as it is “dance wear” and not play clothing or street clothes. There are many different choices available, including leotards, tights, leggings, dance shorts, tutus, jazz pants, etc. Hip Hop students may wear sweat pants or lose comfortable clothing.
Does your schedule follow the local school system with regard to holidays and breaks? And what about weather closings?
No. We provide a schedule of our closings but they might not match the school closings exactly. We do not close on many of the Mondays that schools take off. Also, we do not always close for inclement weather when the school system does. We will post our closings for weather on our App and the studio phone recording by 2:00 p.m. on dance day.
What if my child decides she does not want to dance or we are no longer able to continue classes for other reasons?
Tuition is due on a monthly basis and your obligation is on a monthly basis also. There is no contract for the dance season. We ask for a two-week notice and that is all you are responsible for as far as payment. Costume deposits as well as registration fees are non-refundable.
Can we make up classes if we have to miss due to illness or family obligations?
Classes can be made up but this must be arranged with the director and the teacher as to what class would be best for a “make up” session
